In the last month, they would have screened this movie "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" multiple times. Every time I catch a glimpse of it, I am forced to give a thought to the possible reality of such sacrifices in real life. Then I dispose it off, thinking all such cinematic stories have an element of fiction, rather a major one. Because real life is harsher, and also more practical. Here there are no Gods. Here there are only truths.
Unconditional love. For me a concept easily described, Very tough to follow. As a matter of fact , we all do things, in expectation of some return and putting expectations behind, is not easy.
The "Main de doon aur kuch na loon" is a great phrase to find place in poems, but it needs a strong mind and a devoted heart to place no conditions, no expectations in relationships. Human beings want - they want in return - the respect that they give, the love that they show, the affection they bestow, the place that they deserve, the security, the attention and all the rest which springs from a good and strong relationship.
And those who donot want any of these are indeed godly.
I am very earthly. And you?
same here....me too toooooooooo earthly!!! :D
ReplyDeleteI think i am an extreme case of give and take policy....and when it comes to chocolates it is only take, take and take :)
ReplyDeleteBut on a more romantic note...which i am not...as they say...when you are in love...it is always unconditional...didn't find anyone confirming this though!!!!!
Ms. Peek...hope u r ardent believer of the song .." hum honge kaamyaab" u will definately find someone...BUT it will result in confirming otherwise...so BEWARE!!!
ReplyDeleteI would beg to differ just a tad. The love and affection that parents showers on her kids is totally unconditional and pure. All they ever want is to see their children succeed and do well in their lives. Its not for nothing that we worship our parents like God. I hope that doesn't qualify for the give-n-take logic !!!
ReplyDeleteAlso there are people who just want to see someone smile, just want to see the gleam in someone else's eyes. That's what gives them a purpose in life n satisfaction. Wonder whether those guys fall under the Earthly or Godly category.
Keep rocking
In my opinion, the concept of unconditional love although rare but does exists. Any act executed out of selfless love does not necessarily has a string of "I expect something in return" attached to it.
ReplyDeleteHowever, it may be wrong to say that the selfless love is totally devoid of desires and does not expect reciprocation of feelings. Probably, it does start with certain set of expectations, but when those expectations are not met, their gradual dwindling begins. The unalloyed love then starts deriving happiness by seeing his object of love happy.. ignoring his own pain and dejection. Till this point it can be termed as godly.
But, if the feeling of dejection continues, the selfless love may find itself struggling at its threshold, the earthly part of him constantly reminding him the reciprocation he deserves.. subsequently, we can expect what happens next.. in most of the cases, the earthly part wins! So, indeed, it does take a strong mind and devoted heart to place no conditions, no expectations in relationships.. and I'm no exception! :-)
